New York Standards: Setting Benchmarks for Success

New York has set standards for implementation with the goals of supporting student mental health, improving school connectedness, and fostering better learning environments in grades K-12.

To enable students to take full advantage of educational opportunities and strengthen behavioral development throughout their school experience in grades K-12, and to prepare them for college and/or career, New York has identified goals to guide benchmarks that align with CASEL’s core competencies. These benchmarks are voluntary, but many state schools and districts have used them to guide their programs.

How can districts become leaders in proactive behavioral and mental health?

We’ve put together a sample alignment guide to show how seamlessly the New York guidelines align to Move This World’s curriculum objectives. A school or district-wide behavioral and mental health curriculum can support all students, staff, and families in your community. Additionally, a Tier 1 approach helps provide a common language around social and emotional skills so that students, staff, and families can all participate in creating a positive school culture.
