Earlier in the year we shared an article about the difference between Goals and Intentions; goals talk about the future while intentions focus on the present moment. We wanted to highlight the importance of setting daily intentions and how they bring us closer to our goals by helping us grow a little each day.
As we dive into 2018, let’s dive into our bigger goals, or as we call them this time of year, our New Year’s Resolutions. It is important that we help our students set goals that allow them to develop their growth mindset, or the the belief that abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work and that failure is only an opportunity to learn. There are endless resources out there that talk about how to set successful goals, but we wanted to share a quick and easy New Year’s Resolutions template that you can use with your students as a way to kick off the New Year on a positive note.
Download and print out the following template and start one of your first days back to school with this exercise. Make sure to check in on your students’ goals at least once a month throughout the remainder of this school year and help them come up with smaller “intentions”, or steps, that will help bring them closer to these goals each day. Don’t forget to celebrate both the completed goals and the missteps or “bumps” along the way that will help them learn and grow.
