Breathing Strategies

Stop and close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, completely filling up your lungs. Once you feel your lungs full, inhale a little bit more. Now exhale slowly, releasing all of the air out of your lungs. You may have noticed that during this breath you feel more relaxed, your posture improved, and you’re more focused.

Breathing exercises are some of the simplest and most effective strategies students can do to relieve stress, gather focus, and re-center. They can be done anywhere! Students can perform breathing exercises lying down, standing up, or sitting down.

In this resource, you’ll find directions for your students to practice a variety of breathing exercises. These can be done independently, or with a group (even if it’s virtually)! Enter your information below to download this resource. Available in English and Spanish.
