SXSWedu Shows SEL Is No Passing Craze

SXSWedu is arguably the biggest edtech conference in the world, so needless to say we were thrilled to have the opportunity to connect with so many like-minded organizations, entrepreneurs, educators – and even students. But what excited me most about attending this year was the opportunity to see just how far Social Emotional Learning has come in the last 12 months.

From the sessions to the meet ups to the films, SEL took over SXSWedu this year in a big way. With a combined total of eleven workshops, panels & sessions dedicated to elevating the conversation around SEL, up from a mere three in 2016, it was clear to me that we have reached the point where SEL is now a commonly known acronym – and more importantly, Social Emotional Learning is here to stay.

Social Emotional Learning was even designated a closing program session, hosted by award-winning change agent, Roberto Rivera. The session served as the perfect way for conference attendees to reflect on their week in Austin and set intentions for the week to come – through hip hop. Yes, hip hop.
