“As the great Aristotle wrote, ‘Educating the mind without education of the heart is not education at all.’ This is why SEL matters so much to me, and has been the greatest ‘find’ in my career. As an educator, my goal has always been to help students thrive academically, socially, emotionally and to develop a concern for others. In our increasingly complicated and ever-changing world, students must be taught to recognize, understand and label their emotional experiences while developing essential strategies to regulate them. I’ve learned that we are not born with this understanding, and that these skills must be taught so that students can lead happy and meaningful lives. Social emotional learning inspires me to lead my life with intention and gratitude each and every day, and to be able share this movement with all those in my community is my sincere honor as an #selambassador.”
